Jeff Banks is a master of coordination. Find out which shoes you should be wearing with which trousers, and create the perfect wardrobe.

With a smart suit, or a smart pair of trousers, a lace up shoe always looks great. That could either be an oxford or a wingtip shoe like this one – and it can have brogue on the toes. It could be a slip-on shoe; it could be with a suede or a leather – any of those would suit a smart suit.

For jeans there’s a lot of alternatives; always, a trainer is absolutely acceptable. The current trend is for trainers with leather uppers, with a white contrast rubber sole, and all of those are easy to wear. You can also wear suede slip-ons with jeans – there’s no holds bar, these days – because jeans are the ultimate item of clothing!

Chinos are ever increasing in popularity – and now even with stretch chinos. These were something that were developed for the American army back in the 1940s, and with them it’s great to wear what I can only call a pair of desert boots, normally suede; it doesn’t matter if they get a bit beaten up. The other option – and this used to be worn in the 1950s, what’s called a chukka boot – and that’s got a crepe sole. Either of those two look fantastic with a pair of chinos.
